I finally closed my studio. This decision is the result of a long debate going on in my head on creativity, on the development of my work I am envisioning and pursuing and of reflections about the business in general. Most of all, of course, being free from these four walls it's the first direct consequence of the direction that my work started to take me already for some time, and that more and more I see it taking me in the future. To reach this decision, the direct and indirect contribution and encouragement of friends, colleagues and trusted people in the business has also been very important, and it really means a great deal to me - people I talked to, books I read, online articles, discussions and conversations on online fora and so on are always of enormous help even if, in the end, the decisions we take are ours and ours alone (together with the responsibility that these decisions bring along).
As far as the general question: Do we need a studio? Well, evidently it depends on too many variables to be able to give a single, universal answer - how does your creative process work, what you shoot, where you are located, what kind of customers you serve, and so on will bring everybody to a different conclusion; this is just my take on the problem, and I would be very interested in any comments and opinions you might have.
As far as I am concerned, once I reached my decision I felt so much lighter, freer and overall much more creative and powerful: much as if a barrier has been broken, a comfort zone abandoned and as if new, exciting adventures are now waiting ahead; of course, the downside is that the last month or so has been hell - keeping working while dismantling the studio, moving all the equipment and set up a digital station at home, organizing all the equipment to be ready for location use, and get the apartment I used as studio for rental wasn't really easy, and is the reason why I didn't post much in the last few weeks or so.
Now that I am finally done with all this, studio-less life watch out: I am coming!
